Landscape Images, Ltd. Voted “Best Places to Work” in 2004 & 2005
The husband-wife team, Alan & Marianne Mumford have leveled the playing field at Landscape Images, literally.
The Jefferson-based landscape architect firm introduced an open book management program five years ago, allowing employees to see where every dollar and cent goes throughout the company. Employees can earn a bonus based on the company’s performance at the end of every quarter. “It’s become a philosophy here, not just a bonus system,” said Alan Mumford. “Down through everybody, we are all on the same page and working for the better of the business because we all have personal stakes.”

Civic Work
In 2005, Landscape Images, LTD, in conjunction with The New Orleans Town Gardeners, designed the master plan for the Metairie, Charter School campus. Students from the school participated in a design workshop facilitated by the Landscape Images Team of Alan and Marianne Mumford and Jeannette Roussell.
The workshop encouraged students to bring out their creative sides by developing designs for their campus, which included: shaded areas for seating, areas to perform, and plenty of lawn space for play and recreation. The models were put on display for their Spring Parents Night and remained there until Hurricane Katina shattered the dreams for this campus planning just one month later.

Due to the devastating effects of the hurricane, New Orleans Green Middle School campus, which is now located at 2319 Valance Street, just off Freret Sreet, uptown, has once again emerged with another chance to make a difference in the learning opportunities for our children. Currently, Marianne is working on the task force that is setting up a program based on a successful Edible Schoolyard at MLK Middle School in Berkley, California. This time the Landscape Images team is not only involving the children in the design phase, but also bringing the school’s teachers in to brainstorm ideas as to how they see themselves teaching in the garden upon its completion.
One of the goals of this project is to have the school become a model program for all schools in the New Orleans area. The program will teach our children to think about and make healthier food choices for the rest of their lives. The mission of the program is to create and sustain an organic garden and landscape that is wholly integrated into the school’s curriculum and lunch program from grades K through 8.
Marianne was also involved in gathering the team of local Landscape architects that would work with the landscape Images team in developing the Edible Schoolyard through the design, construction and installation of the garden phases. The garden broke ground in the summer of 2007 and has an extremely bright future ahead.
Community Service
Landscape Images also provides a community service by maintaining two parkway medians in the New Orleans and Jefferson areas. They are on the corner of Carrollton and St. Charles Ave. and the Oak Street Triangle near Leake Ave. Be sure to take a look when you drive by!
