Sometimes the glamorous side of an Uptown New Orleans landscape starts underneath it.
At the State Street Canopy Garden, irrigation work begins at the front and sometimes the most direct route to the rear garden means crawling under the house to reach the next access point.
Not every part of a landscape installation makes the finished photograph. It still has to work.

An Uptown New Orleans landscape has to work from the sidewalk in.
At this St. Charles Avenue front garden, planting is beginning to define the arrival: structure at the street, palms and layered planting beyond the gate, and softer detail carrying the eye toward the house.

Small gardens prove themselves over time.
We finished this compact New Orleans landscape in January, using every available foot to give the front entry and rear courtyard structure, circulation, and planting that could grow into the space.
Nine months later, mahonia, ligularia, ferns, Japanese yew and the surrounding layers have begun to settle in around the brickwork.
the garden feels fuller without feeling crowded.
Good small-space design leaves room for the garden to become itself.

A tree can frame the garden and hide what does not belong.
At this Audubon Street garden refresh, new trees from Fortenberry Farm in Mississippi arrived with Jimmy, our farm manager, before heading into the ground.
One Oriental Magnolia is being positioned near the property corner to soften the utility pole while giving the front garden stronger structure.
The tree changes the view. Good placement changes the whole garden.

Carondelet Street moved through months of construction, pool work, hardscape, fencing, irrigation, planting, and coordination across multiple trades. Our job was to keep the landscape connected to that larger process so each phase supported what came next rather than becoming a series of separate decisions.

The Discovery Garden taking shape @longuevuehg is much bigger than a planting exercise.
Designed for children of all ages to learn by doing, exploring pollinator pathways, a Three Sisters vegetable Garden in connection with herbs, composting, sensory planting, and play turn the landscape into an outdoor classroom built for curiosity.
Now the plan is moving into the ground as trees, drainage, and site work take shape.
