This front and rear garden renovation transformed the State Street residence into a connected landscape that feels established, private, and distinctly New Orleans. The design respects the home’s traditional architecture while improving how each outdoor space looks, functions, and flows.

In front, layered Southern plantings soften the façade and create a welcoming approach to the entrance. Camellias, Japanese yew, azaleas, agapanthus, and other evergreen selections provide structure throughout the year, while custom planters bring additional scale and character to the porch. Low-voltage landscape lighting highlights the walkways and planting beds after dark without overpowering the home.

A gated side passage creates the transition into the rear garden. Irregular flagstone, gravel, and reclaimed-style brick edging give the path an informal, secret-garden quality. Japanese maple, Soft Caress mahonia, ligularia, foxtail fern, palms, and other shade-tolerant plantings add texture and movement along the way.

In the backyard, layered greenery and seasonal color soften the brick pool terrace and create a more private setting for relaxing and entertaining. Fencing helps define the space, while the planting plan brings together the pool area and surrounding architecture.

Drainage and irrigation were integrated throughout the project to support the landscape and address the practical demands of a New Orleans property. Together, the planting, hardscape, lighting, fencing, drainage, and irrigation create a cohesive garden experience from the sidewalk to the pool.
