Behind the Scenes look at Lakeview Verdant Retreat
In Lakeview, we transformed a large backyard into what we call a verdant retreat—a garden that reflects both the rhythm of Southern landscapes and the layered texture that comes from thoughtful design. Anchored by the bold stature of Sabal Palms and Mediterranean Fan Palms, the garden builds upward with Eagleston Hollies and Sweet Olive to create a strong evergreen framework. Japanese Maple, Hydrangea, and Bottlebrush provide seasonal interest and color, while understory plantings of ligularia, mahonia, foxtail fern, and monkey grass weave together a lush and inviting ground plane. Every layer is intentional, creating harmony through balance, texture, and form—principles that guide each of our projects.
The result is a space that is both structured and alive, with each plant playing its role in a larger composition. Bamboo, ginger, and philodendron soften transitions, while perennials like firespike and ajuga bring color and movement throughout the seasons. What could have been an expansive but empty backyard now unfolds as a garden of discovery—modern yet timeless, lush yet livable. This project captures the essence of New Orleans design: landscapes that frame architecture, celebrate the climate, and invite people to live fully in the outdoor spaces of their home.
